Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and has been recognised as the capital since at least the 15th century. Home to the Scottish Parliament and the seat of the monarchy in Scotland, Edinburgh has historically been a centre of education, particularly in the fields of medicine, Scots law, literature, the sciences and engineering and is the second largest financial centre in the United Kingdom. The city is the second most visited City in the united kingdom outside of London and this is partly due to its cultural attractions.
During the month of August there is held the various Edinburgh Festivals, the most well known of these being the Festival Fringe and the Military Tattoo which is held in the famous castle grounds. The Fringe is now the world’s largest annual international arts festival.
The photographs on this page give a small taste of the many hundreds, if not thousands, of street acts that come to the festival each year in the hope of attracting people to their paid show an one of the many venues found all over Edinburgh.
