This is a photograph of my friend James Hessler at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2017.
James is an internationally travelled street performer and can be seen here presenting the famous cups and balls which has its origins over two thousand years ago.
The Edinburgh Fringe Festival is 70 years old this year and began back in 1947 when eight groups who had hoped to perform at the newly formed Edinburgh International Festival were refused entry.
Despite this refusal to allow their performances, they went ahead and performed on the fringe of the festival the first stage of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe were born. The Fringe is a truly open access festival where no one is denied entry should they wish to attend or perform and it has now become the largest platform on earth for creative freedom.
