How We Used To Live

A family living room from the late 60’s / early 70’s recreated at the Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life.

In the not too distant past, before we had colour TV and more channels than we can actually watch, there was just 2 channels and we had no telephone. I know it is hard for younger people to comprehend that this time actually existed but yes, there was no internet, no games console and if you wanted to play with your friends you either went and knocked on the house door to see if they were coming out to play. It was either that or you went to the local park and waited until other came to the area to play.

Todays modern children, good as they are, have perhaps got it a little easier in some way than my generation had when growing up. However, in other respects they have it much harder what with their every move being documented online and photographs of absolutely everything they do instantly beamed across the world for everyone to see – sometimes whether they want to or not.

I think I preferred the old days of anonimity.
